Military Takes Over Obuasi Municipal Assembly Premises

Officers and men from the 4th Infantry Battalion in Kumasi has taken over the security of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly after a section of the Obuasi Small scale miners earlier today ransacked the Municipal Assembly, destroying the reception and other offices with stones and clubs.

Genesis

The irate youth who were chanting ‘No Galamsey…No vote’ broke into the Obuasi East National Democratic Congress (NDC) Party office at Tutuka, where they destroyed virtually everything in the Office comprising a flat screen TV,Plastic chairs,wooden doors and glass windows.

All party paraphernalias and billboards belonging to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) in both the Obuasi East and West constituencies were all destroyed and posters defaced.

At the Obuasi West Constituency, they ransacked the Obuasi West NPP and NDC offices destroying and defacing  all their bill boards and posters..

Movement Committee

A 14 member committee was set up by the Minerals Commission to see to the peaceful relocation of small scale miners from Cote Dor to the surrendered concessions in Suhyenso, Kotopreso, Akasu and Abedwam.

The small scale miners are registering their displeasure with the relocation from their current site which is in the heart of the AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi mine.
