Muslim Burial Service Held for Victims of Obuasi Shooting Amid Heavy Security Presence

A Muslim burial service is currently being held for the seven Muslim victims among the nine individuals who tragically lost their lives in the recent shooting incident at the AngloGold Ashanti mining concession in Obuasi. The service is taking place at the Obuasi Government Hospital, where their bodies were kept following the deadly clash on Saturday night.

As a security measure, the burial service is being conducted under heavy police presence, with over 20 police personnel stationed at the hospital to maintain order and prevent any potential disturbances.

Despite the security deployment, tensions remain high in the area, as a large number of agitated small-scale miners, commonly referred to as galamseyers, have gathered at the hospital. Many are visibly angered by the tragic turn of events and are demanding justice for the deceased.

Following the burial service, the bodies of the victims will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic customs. Authorities continue to urge calm as investigations into the incident are underway, with various stakeholders, including the government and security agencies, working to uncover the circumstances that led to the clash.

The recent violent clash between military personnel and illegal miners has resulted in nine fatalities, with several others sustaining injuries and receiving treatment. The Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM) has condemned the use of force and called for a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the victims.
