The AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Community Trust Fund is making significant progress on a number of development projects aimed at improving education, healthcare and living conditions in host communities of the Obuasi Municipality.
A media tour organised by the Trust Fund and its Steering Committee revealed that three major projects currently under construction are over 80 per cent complete and expected to provide critical support to beneficiary communities.
The projects include a two-unit teachers’ bungalow at Diawuoso, which is being constructed to address accommodation challenges faced by teachers and improve teaching and learning conditions in the community.
At Antoboasi, the Trust Fund is constructing a modern two-unit kindergarten block with ancillary facilities for the Obuasi Methodist School. The facility is expected to provide a conducive learning environment for young children and support early childhood education.
The Trust Fund is also constructing a nurses’ quarters at Aketekyieso to improve accommodation for healthcare workers and enhance access to quality healthcare services in the area.
Speaking during the media engagement, Arnold Ackon, Acting Programmes Manager of the Obuasi Community Trust Fund, said the projects were designed to address key needs identified within beneficiary communities.
He explained that the Trust Fund operates independently and follows a structured approval process before projects are undertaken.
“Projects are presented and approved by the Steering Committee before they commence. The Trust Fund is independent, contrary to perceptions held by some people,” he stated.
Mr. Ackon emphasised that the Fund remains committed to supporting sustainable development initiatives that create lasting benefits for communities.
A representative from the Dompoase Traditional Council, Stephen Akorie Agyemang, commended the quality of work being delivered by contractors and expressed satisfaction with the progress of the projects.
He urged community members to take ownership of the facilities once completed to ensure they are properly maintained and serve their intended purposes for many years.
The AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Community Trust Fund, established in 2012, supports development initiatives in communities affected by mining activities in Obuasi.
The Fund is financed through contributions of US$2 for every ounce of gold produced by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine and focuses on priority areas including education, healthcare, sanitation, infrastructure development and economic empowerment.
Through its investments, the Trust Fund continues to contribute to improving social services and promoting sustainable development within Obuasi’s host communities.
