Obuasi East, Ghana — The Obuasi East Municipal Assembly has donated furniture to the Municipal Education Directorate in a move aimed at improving the working environment and welfare of teachers within the municipality.
The donation, made by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. William Kofi Adzowu, comprises 250 teachers’ chairs, 125 teachers’ desks and 20 swivel chairs to support teachers in schools and at the Education Directorate.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Hon. Adzowu said while governments have over the years invested significantly in providing furniture and other facilities to improve students’ learning conditions, the needs of teachers are sometimes overlooked.

As a former teacher, he said he understands the importance of providing educators with a comfortable working environment.
“Most often, government makes efforts to ensure students are comfortable by providing furniture, but the same cannot always be said about teachers. Teachers also deserve better working conditions,” he said.
The MCE stressed that teachers spend long hours in schools and require proper furniture to enable them to perform their duties effectively.
He added that one of his key priorities is to secure a new office facility for the Obuasi East Municipal Education Directorate, describing it as necessary to improve administrative operations and service delivery.
Hon. Adzowu also highlighted several education development projects currently ongoing within the municipality.
He disclosed that the Independence Basic School will benefit from the construction of a 40-seater water closet (WC) toilet facility to improve sanitation conditions for pupils and staff.
He further mentioned that Christ the King College (CKC) Senior High School is receiving several infrastructure interventions, including a new school entrance, science laboratory, fence wall, boys’ and girls’ dormitories, and a 12-unit classroom block.
According to him, AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine is also constructing a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Centre at CKC Senior High School, while Pomposo Basic School is expected to be transformed into a model school through the demolition of the old structure and construction of a new modern facility.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Education Directorate, the Obuasi East Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Kwabena Owusu-Nketiah, expressed appreciation to the MCE and the Assembly for the support.
He described the donation as historic, noting that it was the first time the municipality had received such a significant number of furniture specifically for teachers.
“This is the first time the district is getting this number of furniture for teachers. We are grateful for this support,” he said.
Mr. Owusu-Nketiah, however, appealed for continued support towards the construction of a new office facility for the Education Directorate to improve its working conditions.
The donation forms part of the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly’s broader efforts to strengthen education delivery, improve teacher welfare and create a conducive environment for teaching and learning across the municipality.
