The Obuasi East Education Directorate has presented awards to some hardworking teachers and education workers in the district. The event was held as part of World Teachers Day which falls on October, 5 every year.
The Obuasi East district was caved from the Obuasi Municipal Assembly in 2018 and has since implemented a lot of initiatives to improve education in the district. Thirteen teachers and education workers were awarded at this year’s Teachers’ Day ceremony in the district. The theme for this year’s World Teachers day was “The transformation of education begins with teachers.”

The Member of Parliament for Obuasi East Constituency, Hon. Patrick Boakye Yiadom, who donated and presented the price for the Overall Best Teacher Award, congratulated teachers and added that due to the good work they do, their wards are usually well disciplined. He mentioned that his own parents were all teachers and his mother retired from the profession 4 years ago.
“You hardly see children of teachers going wayward. It is a blessing that God gives to teachers” he said.
Speaking at the event, the Obuasi East Director of Education, Kwabena Owusu Nketia, revealed that over the years, Obuasi east district has seen over a hundred percent increase in school enrolment and performance, especially in the Basic Education Certificate Examination. He, therefore, thanked teachers for their commitment to providing education in Obuasi East.

Kate Stephens Araba, the headteacher at Independence B JHS, who won the Overall Best Teacher for the 2022 awards ceremony, speaking to Obuasitoday.com, revealed that her 31 years in Ghana Education Service have provided her the opportunity to impact many lives.
“I have taught students who are now working at AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine and it makes me glad,” she said.

She then called on parents to support teachers in maintaining high standards of discipline in schools.
The Overall Best Teacher took away a chest deep freezer.
