The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive under the leadership of Honorable Elijah Adansi-Bonah has distributed furniture worth GH 157,850.00 to schools in the Obuasi Municipality.
The furniture which were purchased from funds from the District Development Fund (DDF) included 240 dual desks, 4 Head teacher’s tables, 4 Head teacher’s chairs, 8 Head teacher’s visitor’s chairs, 43 Teacher’s tables, 43 Teacher’s chairs and 20 Cupboards.
Honorable Adansi-Bonah during the presentation expressed the Assembly’s commitment and readiness to address the challenges confronting the educational sector. He implored teachers in the Municipality not to hesitate to channel their concerns to the Education Directorate for redress.
He said the procurement of furniture for the schools is in response to concerns raised by the Education Directorate about the lack of furniture in some schools which affects teaching and learning. He said the Assembly had to move swiftly to address the challenge. He said “there can be no effective teaching and learning without furniture so this will go a long way to motivate both teachers and students”.
On the Assembly’s plans for the educational sector in 2020, the Obuasi MCE said the Assembly will continue to sponsor the Municipal Mock Examinations and fund orientation workshops for teachers to build their capacities.
Receiving the furniture on behalf of the schools, Mrs. Regina Teni Mummuni, the Municipal Director of Education praised the Municipal Chief Executive for his commitment towards education in Obuasi. She said she has no doubt that the furniture will further enhance teaching and learning in beneficiary schools.
Mrs. Mummuni though felicitated the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo for his efforts in the educational sector describing it as exemplary, especially the introduction of the Free Senior High School, but said it is her hope that other challenges facing the sector would be addressed.
This is the first phase of procurement of furniture for schools in the Municipality. The second phase according to the MCE will be done in due course.
