‘‘Let Us Know What Our Royalties Are Used For’’ – Adansihene Charges Politicians

The Paramount Chief of the Adansi Traditional Area, Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II has charged politicians to provide evidence of works done by the Mineral Royalties received from mining companies in the country.

He issued the caution at Thursday’s Official Launch of AngloGold Ashanti’s 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP) held at the AngloGold Ashanti Schools.

He expressed worry over the actions and inactions of politicians in the country regarding the use of state resources and funds.

According to the Adansihene, AngloGold Ashanti Ghana Ltd is doing her best to improve the living standards of people in the Adansi communities by putting in place some Social Development Plans as was witnessed but they cannot do all as the greater part of the responsibility lies on the shoulders of Politicians.

‘‘We will continue to support AGA in this regard but they cannot do all. What are the politicians also doing?’’

‘‘We don’t take home ex-gratia like you do. We just want to know what our royalties are used for. I am not saying you don’t use it for anything, rather we want to see clear evidence of its usage,’’ – Opagyakotwere said.

‘‘Every Ghanaian, sees what the country got from going HIPC. That is evident, and that is what we want to see from our royalties. Don’t use our royalties for payment of salaries, purchasing fuel and as housekeeping money’’ – He added.

Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II, said that the Adansi traditional Area will monitor the implementation of the 10-year SEDP keenly to ensure that what have been listed are carried out successfully.
