Police Confirm Attack on Adansihene; 40 Suspected Illegal Miners to Be Arrested for Investigation

DSP Samson Wunyi Mumuni, Fomena district police Commander

The Fomena District Police Command has confirmed the recent attack on Nana Adansihene, Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II, stating that over 150 individuals were involved in the violent incident.

Speaking to the media, the Fomena District Police Commander, DSP Samson Wunyi Mumuni, revealed that the police have identified about 40 individuals who were previously engaged in illegal mining activities in the area and had earlier signed a bond to cease all such operations. However, in light of the recent attack, the police suspect that these 40 individuals may have taken part in the assault or collaborated with others who did.

“Although the attackers numbered more than 150, we have reasons to believe that these 40 individuals, who were already on our radar for illegal mining, might have played a role or incited others to join them,” DSP Mumuni stated.

He emphasized that the police are working closely with the Adansiman Traditional Council to ensure that all those involved in the attack are identified and prosecuted. The police command has also assured the public that they will use all lawful means to bring the perpetrators to justice.

This latest update supports earlier claims made by the Traditional Council that the attack on the Adansihene was directly linked to his strong stance against illegal mining in the Adansi area.

The public has been urged to remain calm and assist the police with any credible information that could help in the ongoing investigations.
