Schools Along the Obuasi High Street Need Zebra Crossing

It has been observed that most of the road surface markings or pavement markings on the Obuasi High Street, from the roundabout opposite GCB Bank to Anyinam, have faded including the zebra crossings. This has made the street unsafe due to the frequent movement of vehicles, motorbikes, and heavy trucks in both directions.

The main concern of this write-up is the schools within the municipality that are located along the high street, namely: Obuasi Methodist Basic Schools, St. Thomas Catholic Basic Schools, Queen Egyimah Preparatory School, A.G.A. School, and Sam Boakye Senior High School. The absence of these pavement markings poses a danger to all road users, especially schoolchildren, who cross the street to and from their homes. Many drivers speed along this stretch without considering the safety of pedestrians. In addition, motorbike riders often attempt to maneuver through heavy traffic and sometimes accidentally hit people, leading to serious injuries or even death.

With all humility, I use this medium to draw the attention of the Ghana Highways Authority, Public Works Department, Obuasi Municipal Education Directorate, A.G.A. Obuasi Mine, and other corporate bodies to this pressing issue. It is important that this matter is addressed urgently before it escalates.
