The Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP) implementing team, under the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs (MLGCRA), has commended the Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) for the steady progress of projects being executed under the programme. The team inspected the projects on Wednesday, 10th September 2025.

The projects, which are at advanced stages of completion, include:

  • Bituminous Surface Dressing of 1km Nana Ponko Road at Kunka
  • Construction of a 3-Storey Building with 51 Lockable Stores
  • Construction of a 2-Storey, 800-Seater Auditorium for the Obuasi Recreational Centre, complete with fence wall, ticketing booth, and landscaping at Bidieso
  • Construction of a 5.0m x 2.5m x 300m Storm Drain at Mensahkrom
  • Rehabilitation of an 800m Artisan Site Road at New Baakoyeden

The inspection team, led by Mr. Benjamin Ankrah, Senior Procurement Specialist at the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service, toured five project sites in the municipality. They were joined by members of the Project Management Team of the Assembly, led by Municipal Planning Officer Lawyer Prince Owusu Agyemang, together with Ing. David Agyei, Head of Works Department, and Ms. Agnes Amoah, Head of Physical Planning Department.

Speaking during the inspection, Lawyer Agyemang highlighted that the Obuasi Urban Park, once completed, will serve as a modern recreational centre featuring an 800-seater auditorium, offices, and a ticketing booth. He added that the Assembly is exploring funding options to expand facilities at the park to include a swimming pool and a restaurant, transforming it into a one-stop destination for leisure and hospitality for residents of Obuasi and its environs.
