Stakeholders Commend AngloGold Ashanti’s Community Health Outreach for Expanding Access to Quality Healthcare

AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine’s commitment to improving community health has received widespread commendation from stakeholders following the successful rollout of the second Community Mini Clinic of 2026 at Obuasi Zongo.

Stakeholders, including government representatives, health professionals, community leaders and beneficiaries, praised the Mine for its sustained investment in preventive healthcare, describing the initiative as a significant contribution to improving health outcomes across its host communities.

Speaking at the outreach, the Chief Executive for the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kanin, applauded AngloGold Ashanti for complementing government efforts by bringing quality healthcare services directly to communities while investing in health infrastructure that delivers lasting social impact.

In his remarks, Edmund Oduro Agyei, Director, Sustainability Management, reaffirmed the Mine’s commitment to enhancing community wellbeing through its 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP). He disclosed that since the Community Mini Clinic programme was introduced in 2021, more than 20,000 people have benefited from free preventive healthcare services.

The outreach, organised in partnership with the AGA Health Foundation, Megaforce Security, Procrest Africa, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, Ghana Health Service, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Ghana (SOGOG) and the Municipal Assemblies, offered free medical consultations, blood pressure and blood sugar screening, eye and dental care, tuberculosis testing, laboratory services, nutritional counselling, deworming, health education, body mass index assessment and free gynaecological screening.

Delivering a health education session, Dr. Wunam Abdul Basit, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the AGA Health Foundation and representative of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Ghana (SOGOG), educated participants on uterine fibroids. He emphasised the importance of early detection and encouraged women to take advantage of the free screening services available under the programme.

Beneficiaries also commended AngloGold Ashanti and its partners for prioritising their health needs by bringing quality healthcare services to their doorsteps. They noted that the initiative has significantly improved access to healthcare while reducing the time and cost associated with seeking medical attention, describing the outreach as timely, impactful and beneficial to the wellbeing of host communities.
