The ultimate winners for this year’s Best Farmers Award in Obuasi East and West will each receive AngloGold Ashanti sponsored Motorized Tricycles. Six other districts in AngloGold Ashanti’s catchment areas will also award their winners with items donated by the Mine.
Anglogold Ashanti Obuasi Mine donated the items which are worth GH122, 120 to eight Districts in its catchment areas. The items will be presented to the winners of this year’s National Farmers’ Day celebrations across the districts.
Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Obuasi East District, Adansi Asokwa, Adansi North and Adansi South are the beneficiary districts. The rest are Adansi Akrofuom, Amansie West and Bekwai Municipal Assembly.
Since 2019, the Mine has been making donations towards Farmers Day celebrations in its catchment areas as part of its Social Management Plan which ends this year. The Mine is currently working on a 10 year Socio-economic plan.
Speaking at the donation event, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, the Senior Manager Sustainability, AngloGold Ashanti said the Mine is fully in support of agriculture and they will do their possible best to lift the image of agriculture in the country.
The donated items included eight 32inches LED Televisions, eight Motorized Tricycle, Wellington boots, GTP fabrics, Wax Print, bars of Key soap, Knapsack sprayers, Machete and boxes of Sunphosate Glyphosate Weedicide.
The various districts were represented by their Agric Directors.
This years Farmers Day celebrations comes off on the 3rd of December 2021 . The theme for this year’s 37th National Farmers Day celebrations is ” Planting for Food and Jobs – Consolidating food system in Ghana.”
