AngloGold Ashanti’s Environment Superintendent, Mr. David Adade Boateng has advised that proper waste management practices must be sustained and should not be a ‘one-day wonder.’ He made this known at World Environment Day 2022 celebrations in Obuasi.
‘‘This year we decided to shift away from durbars and having symposiums, because we ask ourselves, what has been the impact? And so, we felt that it would be more practical to do the work, and that is why you see the clean-up exercise here today,’’ he said.
Mr. Boateng added that the people that work in the Central Business District of Obuasi, should be responsible for the cleanliness of the environment.
“I believe and want to hope that it would be sustained, there would be ownership. The people who work in this market would own the cleanliness of their environment. So that it does not become like a funfair where we just clean one day and go back.”
“We must sustain this process. If we don’t, the floods that we would see would be more serious than what has happened. People must be held accountable for their behaviour.”
He concluded that the world environment day celebrations would be of no importance if Ghanaians do not have a total change of mindset.
“We must have a change of heart and mind as a people and decide that we want a clean environment for ourselves and our children. If we don’t do that, I am sorry, the world environment day would be celebrated every year but it would have no impact” he added.
