A woman was stabbed to death on Saturday evening at Old Abompekrom in the Obuasi West Municipality.
The victim, identified as Akosua Ataa, was attacked in her room during a power outage caused by a GRIDCo transformer issue. According to Frederick Addo, the Assembly Member for the Abompekrom Electoral Area, he received reports of the incident around 7:10 p.m.
Speaking to local reporters, Mr Addo described the scene as harrowing, stating that the large amount of blood in the room suggested the victim had bled profusely before succumbing to her injuries. The incident occurred at the victim’s residence, which is located directly opposite the Old Abompe taxi rank.
The body has since been deposited at the morgue, and police have launched an investigation into the incident. As of now, no arrests have been made and the motive for the attack remains unclear.
Residents of the area have expressed shock and fear, calling for improved security, especially during blackouts, which are said to leave the community vulnerable.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist with investigations.
