The project, valued at GH¢20,887,643.08, will be executed by two local contractors — Kilon Company Ltd. and Erok Ghana Ltd. — under AGA’s Local Content Programme, which prioritizes indigenous participation in community development.

When completed, the new facility will include:

  • 24 classrooms
  • 4 sick bays (2 male, 2 female)
  • 2 head teachers’ offices (Head and Assistant)
  • 2 additional offices
  • 2 staff common rooms
  • 2 kitchenettes
  • 1 ICT laboratory
  • 1 library
  • 1 general assembly hall
  • 1 cafeteria (canteen)
  • 8 washroom blocks (4 male, 4 female) with 24 WCs in total

The two-storey structure is expected to transform the learning environment for students and teachers, making it one of the most advanced educational facilities in the Obuasi Municipality.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Mr. Edmund Oduro Agyei, Community Relations Manager of AGA Obuasi Mine, said the project reflects the company’s purpose of “mining to empower people and advance societies.” He added that it also aligns with the Mine’s 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP), which aims to enhance access to quality education in host communities.

Mr. George Alfred Koomson, Municipal Director of Education, expressed appreciation to AngloGold Ashanti for its continuous support toward improving education in Obuasi. He acknowledged the company’s efforts in providing infrastructure, learning materials, and teacher training, which have collectively improved educational outcomes in the area.

The project adds to AngloGold Ashanti’s ongoing investments in education, health, and sustainable development, further solidifying the Mine’s role as a key partner in the socio-economic growth of Obuasi.
