The Parliamentary Select Committee on Local Government has commended the Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) for its performance in mobilizing Internally Generated Funds (IGF).
This commendation came when the Assembly, led by its Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, appeared before the Committee in Accra on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Reviewing the Assembly’s report, the Committee Chair remarked: “I think you are doing well with your IGF. The figures here are good.” The session formed part of the Committee’s nationwide exercise to review the performance of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies.
Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, responding to questions on governance in Obuasi, clarified a long-standing confusion between the Assembly’s name and that of the constituency. “Madam Chair, we are called the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, and the constituency is known as Obuasi West,” she explained, after the Chair mistakenly referred to the Assembly as Obuasi West. Her clarification backed by the Ashanti Regional Minister was well received, settling the misconception that has often arisen in official circles.
OMA on Track to Achieve 80% of Revenue Target
The MCE also assured the Committee that the Assembly is on course to achieve at least 80 percent of its revenue target by the end of the year. She explained that as of the end of September, the Assembly had already mobilized GH₵8.4 million, representing over 50 percent of its annual target of GH₵16 million. With three months to go, she expressed confidence that OMA could close in on 100 percent by year’s end.
Her submission, backed by data, was welcomed by the Committee as a sign of effective financial management and commitment to local development.
Accompanying the MCE to the meeting were the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Frank Amoakohene; Audit Committee Chairperson Ms Shilla Rossetta Arthur, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Anthony Kwenin; the Municipal Finance Officer; Mr Zakara Yayah the Internal Auditor; Mr Francis Addei and the Procurement Officer, Mr Peter Sekyie
