Bekwai, Ashanti Region – The Akomaa Memorial Adventist Hospital in Kortwia has received a significant donation of medical equipment, enhancing its capacity to care for preterm infants. The equipment, consisting of an incubator and an infusion pump valued at $15,000, was generously donated by musician Alex Acheampong, renowned for his hit song “Emmanuel, Me ne mo wɔ hɔ,” and his team from the United Kingdom.

Alex Acheampong shared a personal connection to the cause, recalling the birth of his preterm daughter at 24 weeks in 2014. At that time, doctors informed him of the grim statistics: 90% of preterm babies face a high risk of death, and those who survive may suffer from severe conditions, including blindness or deafness. However, Acheampong’s daughter defied the odds, surviving without any health complications. This experience motivated him to pledge support for preterm babies, leading to the recent donation.
Dr. Lily Obenewaa Asare, Head of Pre-service and In-service at the Ghana Adventist Health Services, received the equipment on behalf of the hospital. She highlighted the critical need for such equipment in the area, noting that the donation comes at a crucial time. “Hospitals in this area often struggle with limited resources, especially for neonatal care,” Dr. Asare said. “This incubator and infusion pump will significantly improve our ability to care for preterm infants, giving them a better chance at survival.”
The donation also brought joy to the local community. Nana Owusu Ansah, the Kortwia manhene expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the positive impact this gift will have on the hospital and the broader community. “We are deeply thankful to Alex Acheampong and his team for their generosity. This equipment will save lives and offer hope to many families,” he remarked.
