AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine has reaffirmed its commitment to responsible mining and sustainable development after participating in the 2026 West Africa Mining and Power Conference and Exhibition (WAMPOC/WAMPEX) held in Accra.
As a headline sponsor of the event, the company joined mining industry leaders, policymakers, investors and other stakeholders from across the region to discuss the future of mining, energy and sustainable development in West Africa.
Throughout the conference, AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine showcased its achievements in environmental stewardship, innovation, community development and sustainable value creation, highlighting its efforts to ensure that mining continues to deliver long-term benefits for people and society.
The Mine’s Managing Director, Ing. Samuel Boakye Pobee, delivered presentations on the company’s operational journey, responsible mining practices and its contribution to Ghana’s socio-economic development.
The company’s Director of Environment, George Owusu-Ansah, also led a masterclass on sustainable water management, where he shared best practices and the Mine’s approach to responsible water use and environmental protection.
AngloGold Ashanti’s exhibition booth attracted significant attention from industry professionals, investors, students and members of the public throughout the event.
Visitors were introduced to the company’s purpose of “mining to empower people and advance societies,” while learning about its sustainability initiatives, community development programmes and business opportunities available within the Mine’s operations and supply chain.
The exhibition also provided a platform for the company to engage directly with stakeholders on its environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments, innovation strategies and investment in local content development.
Through active participation in panel discussions, technical sessions, knowledge sharing and strategic networking, AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine strengthened collaboration with key industry stakeholders and reinforced its reputation as one of Africa’s leading proponents of responsible and sustainable mining.
