AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine has been honoured with seven awards at the 2026 Health, Environment, Safety and Security (HESS) Awards, reaffirming its leadership in workplace safety, security, environmental stewardship and corporate social responsibility.
The awards were presented during a ceremony held at the Mövenpick Hotel in Accra last Friday, where the Mine and its healthcare subsidiary, the AGA Health Foundation (AGAHF), were recognised for their outstanding contributions to health, safety and security excellence.
AGA Obuasi Mine received awards in five corporate categories, including the Fleet Safety Excellence Award, Best Company in Health & Safety Campaign, Best Company in Physical & Integrated Security, CSR Excellence Award, and Best Company in On-site Safety Awareness and Communication.
The AGA Health Foundation also distinguished itself by winning the Best Public Health Awareness Initiative Awardand the Best in Patient Safety and Security Excellence Award, recognising its commitment to delivering quality healthcare and promoting public health within host communities.
Beyond the corporate achievements, two employees of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine received prestigious individual honours for their exceptional contributions to health, safety and security.
John K. Abekah, a retired Fire and Rescue Brigadesperson, was presented with the HESS Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his long-standing dedication and outstanding service.
Meanwhile, Ing. Joe Steve Annan, Director of Safety and Health at AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, was named HESS Manager of the Year for his exemplary leadership and commitment to improving health, safety and operational excellence across the Mine.
The awards highlight AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine’s unwavering commitment to its Zero Harm philosophy, which prioritises the safety, health and wellbeing of employees, contractors and host communities.
The recognition also reflects the Mine’s continued investment in creating a safe, secure and sustainable working environment while delivering lasting value to employees, communities and other stakeholders.
