The Obuasi Municipal Police Command has introduced a 24-hour duty shift system aimed at enhancing security and supporting round-the-clock economic activities in the municipality.
Municipal Police Commander, DSP Francis Ekoh, announced the initiative during the ongoing General Assembly Meeting of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly. He explained that the new arrangement is being piloted at selected fuel filling stations to provide continuous security coverage and reassure both operators and customers.
Three-Shift System
Under the new structure, police personnel will operate in three shifts: 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. DSP Ekoh noted that the deployment is designed to strengthen public confidence and encourage businesses to extend operations beyond traditional working hours.
Pilot Project to Expand
The Commander described the initiative as a pilot programme that could be extended to other sectors of the local economy if successful. He expressed optimism that the enhanced police presence would improve safety, stimulate business activity, and provide greater convenience for residents seeking essential services at night.
DSP Ekoh further urged the public to patronise fuel stations participating in the programme, assuring them of adequate security.
Assembly Members Commend Initiative
Assembly Members welcomed the announcement, commending the Police Command for what they described as an innovative intervention to improve public safety and support economic growth. They also appealed for the programme to be expanded to other strategic sectors and locations across the municipality to maximize its impact.
The introduction of the 24-hour duty shift system forms part of broader efforts by the Obuasi Police Command to enhance security, promote public confidence, and create an enabling environment for businesses and residents.
