Former Member of Parliament for Odotobri, Emmanuel Akwasi Gyamfi, has launched a scathing attack on Gabby Otchere-Darko, accusing him of deliberately attempting to destroy the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking in an interview with Obarima Kwadwo Gyamfi on Aseda FM’s Morning Show, the former MP described Gabby’s recent comments as “false, senseless, and divisive.”
Gabby Otchere-Darko, a leading member of the NPP and cousin to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, had claimed that Ashanti MPs during the Akufo-Addo administration preferred community roads over flyovers and interchanges — a statement that has angered many within the party’s stronghold.
Reacting to the claim, Akwasi Gyamfi said Gabby’s remarks were not only untrue but also an insult to the intelligence of the region’s MPs and constituents.
“Gabby is suffering from money madness. What he is saying doesn’t make sense. He wants to destroy the party in the Ashanti Region,” he fumed.
He further revealed that during one of their meetings with then-President Nana Akufo-Addo, the MPs indeed raised concerns about the poor state of roads in the Ashanti Region, but the response from then Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was shocking.
“I remember clearly — when we spoke about our roads, Ken Ofori-Atta told us that roads don’t win elections,” Gyamfi disclosed.
The former MP said such a statement explained why most road projects in the Ashanti Region were abandoned despite the region being the NPP’s electoral backbone.
He urged Ghanaians, especially party faithful, to ignore Gabby Otchere-Darko’s claims, insisting that they are meant to mislead and sow division ahead of the 2028 elections.
“We toiled to make his family rich, and now he says whatever he wants. Gabby should stop attacking the Ashanti Region and focus on uniting the party instead of dividing it,” Gyamfi concluded.
