Obuasi, Ghana — As part of activities to mark the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, Girls Shall Grow (GSG), a non-governmental organization dedicated to empowering girls and young women, celebrated the day with students of St. Joseph R/C Junior High School in Obuasi.
The event, held under the global theme “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” brought together students, teachers, and mentors to inspire and empower young girls to embrace leadership and resilience in the face of challenges such as gender inequality, poverty, and climate change.

In her address, Louisa Amoah, Executive Director of Girls Shall Grow, encouraged the girls to see themselves as capable leaders and agents of change. She urged them to remain focused on their education, make positive choices, and stand firm in their values.

“Every girl has the power to lead change,” Louisa Amoah said. “You don’t need a title to be a leader. Leadership starts with your mindset, how you treat others, and the choices you make daily.”
Teachers at St. Joseph R/C JHS also shared words of motivation with the students. Madam Veronica Musa encouraged the girls to be determined and to never give up on their dreams despite any obstacles they face.

“Education is your key to success. Stay committed to your goals, and don’t allow distractions to stop you from achieving greatness,” she said.
Madam Monica Danso spoke on the importance of discipline and good character, reminding the students that true success comes from combining intelligence with integrity.

“Be respectful, humble, and hardworking,” she advised. “Your character will open more doors for you than anything else.”
One of the highlights of the program was when Erica Konsagi, a student of St. Joseph R/C JHS, delivered a heartfelt message that inspired her peers. She encouraged her colleagues to be confident, set high goals, and believe in their potential to make a difference.

“We should not think less of ourselves because we are girls,” Erica said. “We can achieve great things if we stay focused and support each other.”
Her words drew loud applause from both students and teachers, symbolizing the impact of peer inspiration and the power of young voices in shaping positive change.

Students shared their aspirations and discussed ways they could contribute to solving local issues.
The program ended with closing remarks, a group prayer, and photo sessions, leaving the students energized and motivated to pursue their dreams and lead with purpose.
