Gangs Have Always Been In Obuasi – Obuasi MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive of Obuasi, Honorable Elijah Adansi Bonah has lifted the lid on the recent gang-related killings in Obuasi saying it has always been there.
The MCE in an interview with Shaft FM morning show on the Friday edition dubbed ‘Adansi Mu Nsem’ said the activities of gangs in Obuasi is no novel thing tracing to his primary days where gang activities took place.

The MCE however, was quick to add that the security services in the Municipality are doing everything in their powers to curb the situation but called on residents to prioritize personal security as he describes it as ‘the best’.
In the space of two days, two people lost their lives as a result – Daniel Opoku, an 18-year-old was lynched by members of his rival gang, and TT, a 23-year-old stab to death on the chest with a broken bottle during a clash at a wake keeping.
These sorry sights seem to go unabated as activities of gangs appears to be deep-rooted in the hearts of the youths of Obuasi, becoming common among residents of Kreeki, Tutuka, Gausu, Kunka and Gausu extension among others.
In an interview with the Assemblyman of Gausu North, Honorable Dawda Tahiru, he disclosed that most of the young guys who engage in the activity have little or no home training as some parents support the craft of their children.
He told that, as an assembly member, he has extended helping hands to the youths of his area through education on trade yet most of them end up embracing robbery and gangsterism as a career.
He called on authorities to crack the whip on these guys when caught and warned parents and traditional authorities to desist from pleading for the release of their wards when arrested.
The chairman of the Municipal Security Committee however asserted that the security personnel’s will do everything possible to curb the situation.
