Hiampenika Basic School in the Amansie Central District has emerged winners of the 2026 Ashanti Regional Edition of the National Festival of Arts and Culture for Basic Schools. The victory qualifies the school to represent the Ashanti Region at the national competition in Techiman this August 2026.
The festival, which brings together both Primary and Junior High Schools, celebrates Ghana’s rich cultural heritage while promoting creativity, innovation and practical skills among learners. Categories for competition included drama and storytelling, poetry recital, drum language, cultural dance, choral music and sight singing, ampe, drawing, cookery, sewing, and construction and assemblage.
Hiampenika’s Junior High School team clinched the regional title in the Construction and Assemblage category. The pupils impressed judges with exceptional creativity and craftsmanship by transforming locally available materials into an outstanding piece of artwork.
Their journey to victory was remarkable, progressing through the inter-schools, circuit, district, and regional “Super Zonals” stages of the competition.
The school’s success reflects the dedication and talent of its students, the commitment of teachers, and the unwavering support of parents and the wider school community. Their innovative use of local materials not only won the judges over but also highlighted the importance of creativity, sustainability and resourcefulness in education.
As representatives of the Ashanti Region in the Construction and Assemblage category, the Hiampenika JHS team will compete against winners from the other 15 regions at the national finals in Techiman next month.
The entire Hiampenika school community is optimistic that the team will continue its impressive run and make both the Ashanti Region and the Amansie Central District proud on the national stage.
