In a passionate acceptance speech, the newly confirmed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi East, Hon. Adzowu Kofi William, pledged to lead a transformational development drive for the young municipality. His confirmation, which took place on Thursday, March 15, 2025, was nothing short of historic, as he received a 100% endorsement from all 28 Assembly Members, a powerful indication of confidence in his leadership.
Expressing his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, Nananom, and the Assembly Members, Hon. Adzowu described his confirmation as a “victory for unity” and called for collective support to move Obuasi East forward.
Key Projects and Promises
1. Completion of the Municipal Assembly Administration Block
Since its creation in 2018, the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly has operated from residences abandoned by AngloGold Ashanti at PTP, a temporary and unsuitable arrangement for effective governance. Hon. Adzowu stressed the urgent need to complete the Assembly’s permanent Administration Block, describing it as essential for service delivery and administrative efficiency.
He made a passionate appeal to the Assembly Members to rally behind him to ensure that the project is completed as early as possible.
2. Pavement Block Road from Tutuka Methodist Church to Tutuka Bus Stop
Hon. Adzowu revealed plans to lobby AngloGold Ashanti to fund the paving of the road between Tutuka Methodist Church and the Tutuka Bus Stop. This stretch, located in a high-traffic zone, will be improved with pavement blocks, enhancing its durability and safety for commuters and pedestrians alike.
3. Relocation of the Timber Market and Creation of a Lorry Terminal
The MCE also reaffirmed his commitment to relocating the long-overdue Timber Market to Boete Senet, a plan that has been pending for several years. He further announced that the current timber market location will be converted into a modern lorry terminal for Obuasi East. This will streamline transportation, reduce congestion, and provide an organized terminal for commercial vehicles within the municipality.
4. Alternative Road Network Through Tutuka Tiatiaso
Recognizing the critical role Obuasi East plays in connecting Obuasi West and surrounding districts to Asokwa, Hon. Adzowu unveiled a plan to create an alternative road to ease traffic and avoid total isolation in case of road blockages.
The proposed alternative route will pass through Tutuka Tiatiaso, but the MCE acknowledged a challenge: a mosque situated along the proposed path. He promised to engage leaders of the Muslim community in meaningful dialogue to explore a peaceful solution, possibly involving relocation of the mosque, to make way for the vital road project.
5. A Vision to Establish a Nursing or Teacher Training College
Looking ahead, Hon. Adzowu expressed his strong desire to bring a Nursing or Teacher Training College to Obuasi East. This would not only expand educational opportunities for local youth but also boost economic activity in the area through job creation, housing, and support services.
As residents look to the future with renewed hope, the success of his administration will depend not only on his vision and energy but also on the unity and cooperation of all stakeholders within the municipality.
