Infrastructure Challenges at Tweapease SHS Discourage Enrolment — Headteacher Appeals for Urgent Support

Tweapease, Amansie Central District – The Headteacher of Tweapease Senior High School, Mr. Kwadwo Obeng Appiah, has raised serious concerns about the school’s deteriorating infrastructure, which he says is hindering effective teaching and learning and discouraging enrolment.

Speaking at the launch of the school’s 2025 SRC Week Celebration, Mr. Obeng Appiah revealed that the severe lack of infrastructure has forced the school to repurpose academic facilities into dormitories just to accommodate students.

“We’ve had no option but to convert the first floor of one of our classroom buildings into a girls’ dormitory,” he stated.

While the school has received some support from the Minerals Development Fund (MDF) in the form of a new dormitory block, the headteacher said the facility is grossly inadequate for the school’s growing population of over 600 students.

The situation has also affected male students, with some classroom blocks being turned into makeshift boys’ dormitories, a temporary measure Mr. Obeng Appiah described as unsustainable and deeply concerning.

Beyond infrastructure, security remains a critical challenge. The school currently has only two security personnel, provided by a nearby mining company, TW, and lacks a perimeter fence—leaving students and staff vulnerable to intruders and other external threats.

“The absence of a fence wall and limited security staff compromises the safety of both students and teachers,” he emphasized.

Mr. Obeng Appiah made a heartfelt appeal to the government, corporate bodies, NGOs, and well-meaning individuals to come to the school’s aid. He warned that the current conditions are discouraging parents from enrolling their children, undermining efforts to promote education in the area.

“We are committed to giving our best, but without external support, we cannot create the safe and conducive environment our students deserve,” he said.

As Tweapease SHS continues to serve a growing student population under increasingly difficult conditions, the call for intervention grows louder—and more urgent.
