The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi East, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu, has outlined a number of development achievements recorded within his first year in office, spanning education, healthcare, water systems, road infrastructure, local economic development, and administration.
Speaking during a media engagement to account for his stewardship since assuming office on May 15, 2025, the MCE stated that despite inheriting several challenges, including poor educational infrastructure, inadequate official vehicles, low access to healthcare facilities, land acquisition issues, and poor road access, the Assembly has made significant progress in addressing key development concerns.
Education Infrastructure Expanded
In the education sector, Hon. Adzowu disclosed that the Assembly completed and initiated several classroom projects to improve teaching and learning conditions across the municipality.
Among the major interventions is the construction of a two-storey six-unit classroom block at Low Cost, fitted with a 15-seater washroom facility, water storage systems, and other ancillary facilities. Additional classroom blocks were also constructed at Nyamesomyede and Asonkore Methodist School to improve access to quality education.
The municipality also witnessed progress on several GETFund-supported projects, including a boys’ dormitory, girls’ dormitory, science laboratory, and wall and gatehouse projects at CKC Senior High School, as well as a classroom block project at Domeabra.
Healthcare Access Improved
The MCE highlighted healthcare delivery as one of the Assembly’s major priorities during the past year.
He announced the construction of two seven-unit health centres at Domeabra and Ayease, complete with nurses’ quarters, mechanized boreholes, water storage facilities, and sanitation systems to improve access to healthcare services in underserved communities.
A medical laboratory facility was also constructed at Odumase to strengthen health diagnostics and service delivery in the municipality.
Water Challenges Addressed
To improve access to potable water, Hon. Adzowu revealed that the Assembly facilitated the construction of 17 mechanized boreholes in several communities, including Ahyimadukrom, Sampsonkrom, Pomposo, Boete, Low Cost, Monzi Valley, Asonkore, Kwabenakwa, and Mampamhwe.
He explained that the interventions were aimed at reducing water shortages and improving sanitation conditions in beneficiary communities.
Road and Transport Development
On roads and transportation, the MCE noted that an alternative access road from Tutuka-Tiatiaso to Boete was constructed through the installation of double box culverts, improving mobility and easing transportation challenges for residents.
The Assembly also acquired two pickup vehicles to support administrative work and improve service delivery.
Boosting the Local Economy
As part of efforts to strengthen economic activities, the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly undertook the development of the Boete Timber Market to support local businesses and create opportunities for traders and artisans.
Future Development Agenda
Looking ahead, Hon. Adzowu outlined several priority projects for 2026, including the completion of an E-Block at Kwabenakwa, construction of a new municipal administration block at Asonkore, development of a 24-hour economy market at Boete, and improvements to road networks such as the Abusco and Bossman roads.
Other focus areas include addressing transformer and faulty electricity pole issues, constructing municipal offices for health, police, and education directorates, as well as improving sports and health infrastructure.
Hon. Adzowu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to responsive leadership and inclusive development, stating that the Assembly remains focused on building a modern, business-friendly, and resilient municipality that improves the lives of residents.
