The Obuasi Office of the Information Services Department (I.S.D) has began a year long massive public education across the thirty eight (38) electoral areas in the Obuasi Municipality.
The program which has been dubbed “W’asetena Mu nsɛm” was formally launched on Thursday, 5th May,2016 at Santiago Market grounds in Obuasi. The Municipal Information Officer, Mr Sampson Manu told the gathering who were mostly made up of drivers,market women and resource personnel from various institutions that the Information Services Department (I.S.D) as a public entity is mandated to sensitize and educate the public on government policies and projects. He said ,the program which is the first of its kind in the Municipality will involve key public institutions such as Ghana National Fire Service, Rent control,National Health Insurance, Ghana Health Service,National Commission for Civic Education, Electricity Company of Ghana,Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice and Municipal Aids Committee. The program he posited,will be rolled across all the electoral areas in the Municipality.

Mr. Manu appealed to Assembly members and their Unit Committee members at the various electoral areas to support the program by organizing their community members to patronize the program to broaden their knowledge on the operations of those departments and to deepen local participation in governance.
Departments like Ghana National Fire Service through a practical demonstration, educated people on how to avoid domestic fire disasters and how to use Fire extinguishers.The Municipal offices of the National Health insurance, Rent control, Ghana Health Service and Electricity Company of Ghana were given the platform to sensitize the public on their operations.
The general public were however given the platform to ask relevant questions pertaining to each department. To crown the day, Population Awareness Promotion, a local non-governmental organization ((N.G.O) educated the public through a stage drama on HIV/AIDS to the applause and admiration of the general public present.
The next edition of the program is at Gauso North and Gauso East electoral areas on Thursday, 12th May,2016.
