Christmas came early for 200 widows and aged persons in Obuasi as the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, hosted them to a special Christmas Eve celebration.
The event, dubbed “Feast with Widows and the Aged,” was held on December 24 as a pre-Christmas programme organised by the Obuasi Municipal Assembly to honour and appreciate some of the most vulnerable members of the municipality.
The celebration was filled with joy and festive cheer as participants were treated to Christmas carols, music, and dancing. Hon. Faustilove joined the widows and the aged on the dance floor, a gesture that further lifted their spirits and created a warm festive atmosphere. The beneficiaries also took turns to present cultural and musical performances to entertain the gathering.
MCE Reaffirms Commitment to Welfare
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin reaffirmed her personal commitment and that of the Assembly to the welfare of widows and the aged in the municipality. She expressed her appreciation to the elderly for their years of sacrifice and service to their families and the nation, while offering words of encouragement and consolation to the widows.
She assured them of continued support and wished them peace, good health, and hope in the coming year.
Gifts and Appreciation
Each beneficiary received assorted gifts to celebrate the Christmas season. Although the programme was scheduled to begin at 12 noon, many participants arrived at the venue as early as 6:00 a.m., demonstrating their excitement and appreciation for the initiative.
Several beneficiaries who spoke during the programme expressed gratitude to the Municipal Chief Executive and the Assembly, describing the event as timely and uplifting. They also appealed for the establishment of a structured welfare support system to address their ongoing needs.
The event was attended by staff of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Assembly Members, and immediate family members of the Municipal Chief Executive. Many attendees described the programme as thoughtful and impactful, commending Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin for her compassion and leadership.
