Traders Summoned Over Refusal to Join Clean-Up

Some traders in Obuasi have reportedly been summoned by the Environmental Health Department of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly for failing to participate in the National Sanitation Day clean-up exercise.

The move, led by the Head of the Environmental Health Department, Mr. Evans Kumi, forms part of efforts to enforce active participation in sanitation programmes and strengthen environmental responsibility among residents and business operators.

The sanitation exercise, which focused on the Central Business District, saw Assembly Members, traders, residents and Assembly staff participate in a massive clean-up operation aimed at improving cleanliness within the municipality.

Authorities say participation in sanitation exercises remains a civic responsibility and is necessary to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

According to officials, sanitation-related diseases and poor drainage systems can only be addressed when residents collectively support environmental cleanliness efforts.

The Assembly has reiterated its commitment to sustaining regular clean-up exercises and strengthening enforcement mechanisms to ensure compliance with sanitation regulations across the municipality.
