Obuasi Assembly to Install CCTV Cameras to Tackle Indiscriminate Refuse Dumping

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly is set to introduce Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at strategic locations within the Central Business District as part of measures to improve sanitation and curb indiscriminate waste disposal.

Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Faustilove Appiah Kannin, disclosed the plan after participating in a National Sanitation Day clean-up exercise held in the municipality.

According to the MCE, the surveillance system will help identify individuals who litter public places or dump refuse indiscriminately.

“Anyone caught on camera violating sanitation regulations will not be spared,” she warned.

In addition to the CCTV initiative, the Assembly plans to install more waste bins at strategic points across the municipality to encourage proper waste disposal practices.

The MCE explained that the interventions form part of a long-term strategy to improve environmental cleanliness and instill discipline among residents and traders within the municipality.

The Assembly believes the combination of increased surveillance and improved waste disposal infrastructure will significantly reduce sanitation-related offences and improve cleanliness in the municipality.
