Teachers and pupils of the Kwabrafoso and Asonkore Junior High School in the Obuasi East District can now heave a sigh of relief after the Member of Parliament for the area Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom together with the District Chief Executive Hon. Faustina Amissah commissioned separate classroom blocks for the two schools.
The Asonkore school grappled with the challenge of running a shift system hence the construction of a three-unit classroom block was a welcoming news for both teachers and pupils.
The Kwabrafoso school popularly known as Padmore on the other hand also had a challenge with overcrowding since the student population was increasing hence the intervention of the Assembly and the Member of Parliament which saw the construction of a two- unit classroom block to help alleviate their plight.
In an interaction with the media, Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom said the two project cost GH¢190,000 and GH¢150, 000 respectively and were funded by the Middle Belt Development Authority.
He said he is poised to eliminate the shift system in schools in the district. He said he is currently lobbying the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GET FUND) to construct six- unit classroom block at Asonkore and Kwabenakwa .
He seized the opportunity to admonish parents to prioritize the education of their wards which could guarantee the children a good future.
The District Chief Executive for Obuasi East Faustina Amissah reechoed the resolve by authorities in the district to end the shift system which she said had become albatross on the neck of both teachers and pupils in some schools.
The District Director of Education Kwabena Owusu-Nketiah also called on students to dedicate more time for their books. He said government is doing its best by investing in education hence the onus lies on the students to learn hard to vindicate the investments made in them.
The Education Directorate has received approval from District Education Oversight Committee (DEOC) to fully implement a directive which will ensure that pupils in primary three who cannot read in English and Twi are repeated.
Hence Mr. Owusu- Nketiah called for the support of parents, Nananom and other stakeholders in education to make this directive a success.
