The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates, with the Council cancelling the results of 601 candidates following confirmed cases of examination malpractices.
The release, announced in a statement dated 29 July 2026, indicated that the results have been dispatched to schools through the respective Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Candidates who wish to access their results online can also do so through the Council’s official website.
A total of 620,243 candidates from 20,789 participating schools took part in the examination.
The candidates comprised 304,415 males and 315,828 females, with the examination conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide.
The candidates included persons with special assessment needs, including 136 candidates with visual impairment, 282 candidates requiring hearing assessment support, and 510 candidates with other test accommodation needs.
WAEC recorded 3,601 absences during the examination.
Results Cancelled and Withheld
According to WAEC, investigations into irregularities detected during the conduct of the examination and marking of scripts have been completed, leading to sanctions against some candidates.
The Council’s Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved the following actions:
- 496 candidates had their subject results cancelled.
- 105 candidates had their entire examination results cancelled.
- 119 candidates had subject results withheld.
- 48 candidates had their entire results withheld.
In total, 601 candidates lost their results through cancellation due to examination-related offences.
Meanwhile, WAEC said the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools remain withheld pending further investigations.
The Council explained that the withheld results may either be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of the investigations, which are expected to be completed by 31 August 2026.
Candidates Asked to Check Status of Withheld Results
WAEC advised candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld to visit the Council’s irregularity and investigations portal to understand the reasons behind the decision and receive guidance on the next steps.
Candidates can access the platform through https://irreg.waecgh.org and select the “withheld/cancelled” option on the homepage.
Heads of schools and proprietors can also use their results listing logins to check the status of affected candidates.
WAEC Warns Against Result Fraud
The examination body has cautioned candidates, parents and the general public to be careful of individuals who promise to upgrade examination results for payment.
WAEC stressed that its results are secured and can be authenticated, warning that anyone claiming to have the ability to alter or improve grades is engaging in fraudulent activities.
The Council encouraged stakeholders to rely only on official channels for information regarding examination results.

WAEC expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, school heads, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and other stakeholders who contributed to the successful conduct and release of the 2026 BECE results.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the credibility of Ghana’s examination system by ensuring that academic results reflect the genuine performance and efforts of candidates.
The release of the 2026 BECE results now paves the way for successful candidates to proceed with the next stage of their academic journey, including placement into senior high schools under the country’s education system.
