The AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Community Trust Fund on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, cut the sod for the construction of a modern 2-unit Kindergarten block with ancillary facilities for the Obuasi Methodist School at Antoboasi.
The new facility, estimated to cost GH¢1,330,000, will be completed within five months by A.A. Engineering & Construction Works. The project is part of the Fund’s continuous efforts to improve educational infrastructure within the Obuasi Municipality.
At the ceremony, Arnold Ackon, Acting Programs Manager of the Trust Fund, explained that the existing KG block — the first ever built in Obuasi — was badly damaged after heavy rainfall ripped off its roofing. This situation, he said, compelled the Assembly Member for the area to petition the Fund for support, leading to yesterday’s sod-cutting.

“This project will give the children of Obuasi Methodist School a safe and modern place to begin their academic journey,” Mr. Ackon noted.
Mrs. Theresa Boadi, Headmistress of Methodist Primary ‘A’ and Corner Memorial KG, described the project as a great relief. She, however, appealed for additional support, stressing that the JHS block also needs urgent renovation. She further revealed that the dilapidated state of the KG block has contributed to low enrollment, with only 20 pupils transitioning from KG to the Primary School this year compared to over 100 pupils in previous years.
On her part, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Obuasi West Municipal Assembly, Madam Faustilove Appiah Kanin, praised the initiative, saying it has eased the burden on the Assembly, which would otherwise have had to provide the facility. She encouraged the Trust Fund to continue supporting the Assembly in improving school infrastructure across the Municipality.
The new KG block, once completed, is expected to boost enrollment, provide a safer environment, and improve early childhood education in the Antoboasi community and surrounding areas.
