AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has revealed that it has paid US$23,863,842 as direct and indirect taxes as of the end of September this year. Speaking at a Town Hall Meeting held in Obuasi, the Senior Manager Sustainability, Emmanuel Baidoo reiterated the company’s desire to contribute to socio-economic development in the communities in which it operates in Ghana.
Detailing the taxes paid by the company in his presentation, Emmanuel Baidoo revealed that the company paid US$13,059,244 as direct taxes of which $8,259,870 was paid as royalties and the remaining $4,799,374 as withholding tax.
In indirect taxes, AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine paid $975,243 as customs duties and $1,953,640 paid into the State pension scheme. Moreover, $6,788,561 was paid as payroll taxes.
Aside from those taxes, another $324,248 was paid into the Community Trust Fund. The Trust Fund receives $2 for every ounce of gold produced by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine.
