In a decisive move to restore reliable power and rebuild the local economy, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi East Municipal Assembly, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu, has officially handed over two (2) 200KVA /33KVA transformers worth Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵250,000.00) to Kwabenakwa and Asonkore communities.
The intervention comes as a major relief to both communities, which have endured severe power instability over the past six months. With the required equipment temporarily out of stock at the Ministry of Energy, the Municipal Assembly stepped in directly to procure the transformers to resolve the crisis without further delay.
The persistent outages had severely impacted daily life, schooling, and local business operations. Speaking at the official handing-over ceremony, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu offered a sincere apology to the residents for the hardship caused by the prolonged supply disruptions, describing the period as unfortunate.
“I am here to serve the good people of Obuasi East, and it is my primary responsibility to ensure that our citizens receive the reliable services they deserve,” Hon. Adzowu stated, reassuring community members of the Assembly’s continued commitment to infrastructure development. He then urged the communities to safeguard the transformers, avoid illegal connections, and report faults early to ECG to ensure durability.
Community leaders and local representatives expressed overwhelming gratitude during the event.
Nana Akwasi Addo, Abusuapayin for Kwabenakwa Subinso conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the MCE and management, noting that the power instability had taken a heavy toll on small business owners, with many sufferings’ significant financial losses and depleted trading capital.
Hon. Charles Abu, Assembly Member for Kwabenakwa Electoral Area Commended the MCE for his swift intervention and hands on leadership, highlighting that the installation of the new transformers marks a crucial turning point for local economic recovery.
With the new 200 KVA/33 KVA transformers now on site, technical teams from the electricity company of Ghana (ECG) are finalizing installation to ensure stable, uninterrupted electricity is fully restored to both Kwabenakwa and Asonkore in the coming days.
