The 4th Biennial Catholic Diocesan Choir Congress concluded successfully on Sunday, 2nd August 2026, with Tutuka Deanery Choir emerging as champions of the Diocesan Choral Competition for the third consecutive time, having previously won in 2022 and 2024.
Hosted by the Tutuka Deanery at the Kwabenakwa Rectorate, the Congress brought together choirs from across the Catholic Diocese of Obuasi for a celebration of sacred music, spiritual renewal, and fraternity. In addition to the choral competition, participants took part in a Music Workshop, Bible Quiz Competition, and Keep-Fit sessions, promoting the holistic development of choristers.

The Congress officially opened on Friday 31st July 2026 with a keynote address by Prof. Yaw Sakyi Baidoo, a renowned musician who underscored the indispensable role of sacred music in Catholic worship. He challenged choristers and choir directors to remain faithful to their calling by worshipping God “in spirit and in truth,” emphasizing that church music is a sacred ministry rather than mere performance.
The competition was generously sponsored by the family of the Late A. E. Amankwah, whose sponsorship package, valued at approximately US$2,000, reaffirmed the family’s enduring commitment to the promotion of sacred music within the Diocese. The event attracted clergy, political leaders, choristers, members of the Amankwah family, and the wider public.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Bright Amankwah expressed appreciation for the collaboration with the Catholic Diocesan Choir and pledged the family’s ongoing support for the growth of sacred choral music and promotion of his father’s legacy throughout Ghana. In response, Mr. Richard Obeng Boadi, Diocesan Music Director, conveyed the Diocese’s profound gratitude, describing the family’s sponsorship as a significant contribution to the advancement of diocesan choral ministry.
Reflecting on the historic achievement, Mr. Joseph Owusu-Addo, Tutuka Deanery Choir Director and Second Deputy Diocesan Music Director, commended the choristers for their dedication, discipline, and unwavering commitment throughout the preparation and competition. He also expressed appreciation to all who contributed to the Deanery’s success.
With three consecutive championship titles now to its credit, Tutuka Deanery has firmly established itself as a leading force in diocesan choral music. As anticipation builds toward the 5th Biennial Catholic Diocesan Choir Congress in 2028, the Deanery will seek to extend its remarkable winning streak while continuing to inspire excellence in sacred music ministry.
