Obuasi MCE Leads Massive Clean-Up Exercise Despite Heavy Morning Rains

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Honourable Faustilove Appiah Kannin, braved early morning rains to join residents, traders, Assembly Members and staff of the Assembly in a massive clean-up exercise to mark this month’s National Sanitation Day.

The sanitation exercise focused on the Central Business District (CBD) and formed part of efforts by the Assembly to improve environmental cleanliness and promote responsible waste management within the municipality.

Although heavy rains in the early hours of the day temporarily disrupted activities, participants remained committed to the exercise and resumed work shortly after the rains subsided.

The clean-up covered major sections of the business district stretching from Santiago through Jemima to Horsey Park, where drains, streets and public spaces were cleared of refuse and debris.

With support from equipment under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), choked drains were desilted to improve water flow and reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season.

Several truckloads of waste were collected and transported to designated landfill sites for proper disposal.

Assembly Members, Environmental Health Officers, traders and community members actively participated in the exercise, reaffirming a collective commitment to keeping Obuasi clean.

Speaking after the exercise, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin commended participants for their dedication and called for sustained public cooperation in maintaining environmental cleanliness within the municipality.
