AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

They are therefore seeking experienced and self-motivated people to fill these vacant positions.

Engineering Manager – Process Plant.

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

The role holder will provide strategic technical support on Process Plant engineering plans, projects, refurbishment and maintenance activities, design and resolve Process Plant system issues, establish, and enforce standards, regulatory and industry best practice works for the Plant. Advise Engineering Management on needed actions to ensure reliability. Run Root Cause Analysis of Process Plant issues and fulfill the requirements of continuous improvement workshops across the plant.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
  • Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
  • Act on all corrective actions assigned under incumbent’s jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.
  • Define and set construction, refurbishment, and maintenance activities in accordance with the Government of Ghana conditions of approvals and the site’s Environmental Management Plan.
  • As a minimum, achieve zero reportable environmental incidents, zero compliance breaches and no events requiring public disclosure.
  • Utilize ‘Analyze and Improve’ tools to investigate process interruptions so that exposure to environmental risks is reduced.
  • Reduce energy usage by running the plant energy consumption per unit produced at the optimal rate within the sphere of influence
  • Set the Process Plant requirements within supervisors’ skills matrices. Where skill deficiencies are identified and escalated, initiate the provision of corrective action.
  • Develop an appropriate succession plan for key positions with the correct supportive development plan.
  • Set the standards so that Process Plant work carried out by the maintenance team is of a standard that supports the operational requirements of the equipment and is at optimum cost.
  • Define sub-standard work practices and indicate the action to be taken to eliminate them and identify the root cause of these poor work practices.
  • Set the strategy and process to monitor the performance of the power purchase agreement by confirming the Process Plant license conditions are upheld, and key maintenance activities are conducted
  • Design the reporting structure to permit comprehensive recognition in a timely manner of all current and potential risks to the Process Plant infrastructure during Refurbishment, Construction and Maintenance activities, utilising the established Risk Management System, identifying activities and setting strategies to eliminate, manage or mitigate these risks.
  • Ensure cost impacts in the area of accountability are evaluated, approved, and budget is revised.
  • Identify, compile, communicate and implement potential cost reduction initiatives.
  • Utilize the SAP asset maintenance management system in providing information for decision-making processes.
  • Ensure all subordinates are competent in the utilization of the SAP asset maintenance management system for extraction and analysis of data for reliability, condition monitoring and efficient Process Plant operation
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with the procurement team to establish the inventory and spare parts for the processing plant and Surface/Underground mine infrastructure as appropriate within the area of accountability.
  • Provide input and support into establishing and maintaining Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), budget, schedule, and construction work packs for refurbishment activities
  • Advise progress and KPI status in a timely manner to the management team, particularly potential cost, and schedule or quality variances.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve cost, schedule, quality and safety outcomes to all engineering, refurbishment and construction activities undertaken and analysed in relation to the Process Plant System and Supply on the mine.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Qualification

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Process Plant Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong management and leadership skills will be an advantage
  • Financial, commercial and project management through work experience and courses.

 
Experience 

  • An experienced Process Plant Engineer with 10+ years’ experience in the continuous improvement, asset management, reliability and condition monitoring of Process Plant machinery and infrastructure in the processing plant and mine environments.
  • Experience in energy management
  • Experience in management and QA/QC on contractor work
  • Experience in Power Systems and related Software Analysis
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Experience in Power Supply Purchase & Transmission Agreements and stakeholder management with power regulatory authorities in Ghana will be an added advantage

Control Room Engineer

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

The purpose of this role is to perform a range of tasks, monitor the processes through electronic representations shown on monitors. Make changes to variables and communicate with other departments to make sure processes keep running smoothly and according to established procedures. Take appropriate actions in case of irregularities or emergencies. And actively promote Safety culture and Hazard awareness and ensure relevant Mining and other statutory Codes and Regulations are in full force underground.

Underground Shiftboss

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

The Shiftboss role is a regulatory mandated role that leads the Quality Assurance and Control and ensures compliance to the mining and other related legislation. The incumbent will also manage risk of all underground mining ore extraction activities to the required standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Establish the necessary production processes and practices for the redevelopment of the Obuasi Mine
  • Maintain good working knowledge of the following relevant provisions applicable to the mine:

Senior Manager – Environment.

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

This role is accountable for the development and implementation of Environmental management strategy, systems and plans to maintain the environmental legal and social license to operate Obuasi Mine. He/she will also be accountable for defining, implementing and monitoring environmental management across Obuasi Mine; provide expert level, professional environment management capability and capacity to meet operational, regulatory and corporate requirements as well as facilitate capacity-building of environmental management skills among all disciplines on site and assist sites to integrate environmental management activities into their daily operations as applicable.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensure to achieve the annual safety targets as set by the MD for area of accountability
  • Ensure that the health and safety management systems (OSHAS 18001) in area of accountability are being complied with and that any deviations in this regard are addressed in the appropriate manner

  • Provide the relevant leadership and guidance to ensure the implemented Management System fulfills the requirements of certification under ISO 14001.
  • Manage all environmental-related licenses, permits and certificate requirements and monitor environmental practices to ensure required certification and compliance with applicable regulatory, site and corporate standards
  • Manage environmental monitoring and continuous evaluation to provide early warning signs of change for corrective action, ensure compliance, identify risks and inform management decisions.
  • Facilitate, coordinate and manage environmental-related stakeholder (internal and external) engagement and communication.
  • Maintain constructive working relationship with the EPA (Ghana), to ensure permitting and approvals are on time and efficiently supports the business plan

  • Provide for the satisfaction of all environmental legal and other obligations, especially permits and licenses, including their periodic renewal, as required.
  • Mobilize and/or contribute expert advice to relevant peers and, where appropriate, the authorities and/or civil society in order to support improved environmental stewardship in the local area. Waste management and artisanal mining, in particular its combined impact upon water resources and woodlands are likely to require particular attention
  • Investigate all environmental incidents and ensure that appropriate mitigation measures are recommended so as to avoid their reoccurrence. Incidents reports to be produced in a timely manner in conformity with the company procedure
  • Negotiate contracts for services provided to the Environmental Department in accordance with the applicable policy.
  • Perform the role of Contract Representative to monitor all aspects of contractor’s performance and address any performance and contract compliance issues in area of accountability.
  • Review compliance to laws and AGA standards and commitments, review performance against objectives and targets, review impact of programmes (e.g. ISO 14001) and project interventions
  • Maintain a change management review process that identifies potential future transgressions of existing approvals and enables additional permits or variations to be obtained in a timely manner

Chief Resource Geologist

  • To oversee mineral resource modeling and estimation in support of the Long-term Mine Planning and Exploration strategy.

  • Provide technical input to the Safety Manager, Refurbishment Manager, Planning Manager, Technical services manager and Construction Manager in order to develop the safety management plan for the construction and refurbishment works, consistent with AGA’s Integrated Management System and Standards.
  • Review the application of safety standards and work practices for the refurbishment construction workforce to enable the safety targets to be managed and achieved.
  • Apply HSE regulations with zero tolerance to breaches.
  • Lead by example to create a safe working environment, where risks are assessed and managed, so tasks are performed without risk of injury or harm.
  • Apply the ‘working elements’ (inspections, audits, JHA, etc.) of the Safety Management System and deliver compliance.
  • Deliver timely investigation of all injuries, illness, and incidents with actions plans developed to prevent recurrences.
  • Execute the construction, refurbishment and maintenance activities in accordance with the Government of Ghana conditions of approvals and the site’s Environmental Management Plan.
  • As a minimum, achieve zero reportable environmental incidents, zero compliance breaches and no events requiring public disclosure.
  • Utilise ‘Analyse and Improve’ tools to investigate process interruptions so that exposure to environmental risks is reduced.
  • Reduce energy usage by running the plant energy consumption per unit produced at the optimal rate within sphere of influence
  • Support the Processing Department to maintain Cyanide Code certification.
  • Establish the Chemical laboratory, reliability and legal compliance team required to support the role holder in executing the project.
  • Identify skill deficiencies and initiate corrective action.
  • Support interface management with the EPCM contractor for construction and refurbishment works.
  • Liaise with the Manager Planning to develop maintenance planning and management outcomes that include QA/QC – analysis by chemical lab, reliability and condition monitoring, legal and compliance.
  • Communicate accurate and timely construction schedule delivery, progress, cost and quality information in the area of accountability.
  • Collaborate with Construction Manager on new builds safety, compliance, operability, standards, maintainability, and reliability.
  • Support the development and implementation of systems for the Engineering department to provide effective quality planning of work, efficient and safe work practices, monitoring of performance and promote continuous improvement.
  • Operate the QA/QC of maintenance of the processing plant, surface and underground mine infrastructure during the Phase 3 Operations.
  • Ensure the work carried out by the maintenance team is of a standard that supports the operational requirements of the equipment and is at optimum cost.
  • Identify sub-standard work practices and take action to eliminate them and identify the root cause of these poor work practices.
  • Lead a team of engineers to specify, design, analyze and verify new components and systems.
  • Deploy management routines to identify defects in the workplace
  • Maintain legal compliance and QA/QC of the maintenance and operation of the Processing Plant and Surface and Underground mine infrastructure within the approved project schedule, achieving monitoring of all critical intermediate milestones.
  • Develop an asset management strategy for QA/QC in the area of accountability based on the Obuasi Operations expected life of mine.
  • Utilize the SAP asset maintenance management system in maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all subordinates are competent in the utilisation of the SAP asset maintenance management system for reliability and condition monitoring, QA/QC to support a smooth transition into operations.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with the procurement team to establish the inventory and spare parts for the processing plant and inspect all refurbishment works to ensure works are delivered in accordance with applicable designs, specifications and expectations.
  • Oversee refurbishment witness inspections and testing regime to ensure quality and or performance is in line with obligations and expectations.

SAP System Advisor.

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

The SAP System Advisor is accountable for coordinating and delivering the SAP PM business solution in AGAG to fully function within the agreed budget costs and timeframes. The role holder will lead the set-up of SAP and will be monitoring the progress and controlling the progress directly using the AGAG planners through the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning stages, interfacing and coordinating the SAP PM activities for all the equipment at AGAG.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Deliver the Safety Management plan elements for the areas under the incumbent’s control

Experience

  • An experienced SAP PM, Maintenance Planning and ERP Trainer; a mechanical/electrical/ maintenance engineer with 10+ years’ experience in maintenance planning for Surface Processing Plant, Underground and Surface Mine Infrastructure and Equipment.
  • 5+ years’ experience in training SAP PM, ERP and Planning Modules to create fully competent knowledgeable users and super- users to budget and timeframe.
  • Detailed competency and knowledge of SAP PM module and ERP (SAP) operation and usage
  • An SAP “Guru” and certified SAP trainer (particularly for PM and Planning modules)
  • Experience in management of planning for Maintenance and Repair Contracts (MARC)

Legal Requirements

  • Must possess Engineering Managers Certificate of Competency from Mineral Commission of Ghana.
  • Professional Certificated Engineer with a relevant certification body

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge in SAP, especially PM and Planning, ERP

Project Manager – Rails

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

The Project Manager – Rails will work directly with the Project Director and Mining Projects Manager to lead construction and re-establishment of underground rail haulage system with bottom tipping arrangement and provide clear cut direction on the delivery of the project. Additionally, he/she is responsible for managing the planning and programming activities of the rail project to ensure the most efficient use of resources and successful completion of the project in accordance with the contract.
