A 33 year old Esther Turkson, a pre- school teacher at the Boete KG school has won the 2024 Best teacher award at a teachers awards ceremony held at the Christ the King Catholic school.
Ms. Turkson was among other fifteen teachers who were honored for their hardwork and dedication to duty.
For her prize, she was given a 65-inch television set, Microwave,certificate, a sponsored air trip from Kumasi to Accra back to Kumasiand among others.
Held on the theme Valuing teacher’s voice towards a new socialcontract for education, the awards, organized by the educationaldirectorate of the municipality in collaboration with it partners soughtto recognize the gallant contribution of teachers towards theattainment of quality education in the country.
She dedicated her award to her colleague teachers of the Boete school and her pupils. She attributed her success to years of commitment, passion and dedication to her job as a pre-school teacher.
” Teaching at the pre-school level for 9 years now hasn’t been easy but some of us are motivated to always give out our best for these kids”, she said.
She however encouraged teachers to remain resolute and work hard despite the challenges they encounter in their work.
Impact
Only the second edition of teachers awards in the Municipality, Mr. Kwabena Owusu Nketiah, the Municipal Education Director said the awards scheme has motivated teachers to work hard to be recognized. He said this year, 15 teachers as against 10 in the previous edition were honored whiles there was a marked improvement in the prizes given.
Mr. Nketiah commended teachers in the Municipality for their commitment to duty and revealed that due to their hardwork, most parents are withdrawing their wards from private schools to public schools in the Municipality.
Improvement in reading abilities of kids
The Obuasi East Municipal Chief Executive Hon Faustina Amissah lauded the efforts of the education directorate to improving the quality of education in the Obuasi East Municipality.
He said the introduction of ‘ 100- days of reading’ initiative introduced by the education directorate has led to improvement in the reading abilities of pupils at the primary school level
” The introduction of the teachers awards scheme and the 100-days of reading has improved the level of education in the Municipality and I congratulate the teachers here send the directorate for a good job done”.
