The Obuasi East Municipal Health Directorate has organized series of activities including free health screening and sensitization on tuberculosis and other related disease at Mampamhwe as they commemorated the 2025 World Tuberculosis Day.
World TB Day is an annual event celebrated every 24th March to create public awareness about the cataclysmic health, social and economic consequences of tuberculosis (TB) and to set up effort to end global TB pandemic. TB is a bacterial infection that affects the lungs, but can also affect other part of the body. It is a major public concern, especially in low – and middle – income countries.
The Municipal Director, Charity Afrifa-Adjei, “despite the challenges, we have made significant progress in the fight against TB. Our Municipal TB program has implemented a range of interventions, including sensitization through the radio, Community based information centers and the mobile van, which have contributed to a significant reduction in TB cases over the past years”.
The theme for 2025 World TB Day is “YES WE CAN END TB: COMMIT, INVEST, DELIVER” that is why the directorate has called on all stake holders for their partnership to intensify the case search by way of early detection and treatment. Looking at the global statistics which shows 85% cure rate of TB and it shows that if TB is detected earlier then it assures that the cassis under control by way of coming together and join forces to end tuberculosis, Charity Afrifa-Adjei added.
She said, however, despite this progress, there are still many challenges to overcome. TB remains a major public health concern, particularly in [high-risk populations]. We must continue to work together to address these challenges and ensure that everyone has access to TB diagnosis, treatment, and care.
On this World TB Day, I want to call on everyone to join us in the fight against TB. We need your help to raise awareness about TB, to promote TB prevention and care, and to support those affected by TB. The Municipal Director of Health Services called on the People.
