The Kunka and Nyameso-Bediem Electoral areas in the Obuasi Municipal Assembly have faced an abrupt postponement of their local elections. This postponement arose due to logistical challenges, primarily the non-arrival of election materials, causing significant voter discontent.
This disruption has cast a shadow over the well-publicized preparedness of the Electoral Commission (EC), which had earlier announced readiness for district-level elections on December 19th.
Similarly, in Nyameso-Bediem, the non-arrival of election materials left voters disheartened, many of whom departed from polling stations upon hearing the news.
These postponements come amidst a larger electoral landscape where over 66,000 individuals are competing for positions across 6,215 electoral areas in 216 assemblies. The EC’s statistics show a substantial turnout with 18,755 assembly member candidates and 47,502 unit committee member candidates.
As voters and candidates alike await new election dates, the EC faces the pressing task of restoring trust in its logistical capabilities and ensuring a fair and transparent voting process.
