Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Obuasi, Richard Ofori Boadi, popularly known as Zuba has revealed that he will resign from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if Dr. Kwabena Duffour becomes the flagbearer of the party.
In an interview with Obarima Kwadwo Gyamfi on the Aseda Morning Show in Obuasi, Ofori Boadi expressed his preference for former President John Mahama to lead the party into victory in the 2024 presidential elections.
Dr. Kwabena Duffour recently picked up forms to officially run for the flagbearership of the NDC. He previously served as the Finance Minister of Ghana under the administration of President John Atta Mills and was named one of the four best Central Bank Governors in the world at an IMF/World Bank meeting in 1999. He is also the founder and chairman of HODA Holdings, a business entity that encompasses insurance, banking, real estate, farming, mining, and media.
Despite Duffour’s impressive credentials, Richard Ofori Boadi believes that his age and health are not in his favor. “Kwabena Duffour is old and must sit back,” he stated, adding that while he acknowledges Duffour’s competence, he still believes that Mahama is the best candidate for the party.
However, former Communications Officer of the NDC, Solomon Yaw Nkansah, disagreed with the former MCE, arguing that Mahama has already lost twice in presidential elections and should step back for a fresh face. Nkansah believes that Dr. Duffour is the party’s best bet to win power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in next year’s presidential elections.
In response to Richard Boadi’s comments, Nkansah stated that Duffour is stronger than him and therefore should not use age and health as issues against him. Zuba, however, countered that Nkansah cannot be stronger than him, let alone Duffour, saying that if Dr. Duffour gets 10% of the votes in the upcoming NDC primaries, he will buy a goat for his followers.
The race for the NDC flagbearership is heating up, and it remains to be seen who will come out on top. With prominent party members like Richard Ofori Boadi and Solomon Nkansah voicing their opinions, it is clear that the party’s supporters are passionate but divided over their preferred candidates.
